How To Use Rosemary Oil for Hair Growth?

Rosemary oil has been getting a lot of attention as the go-to remedy for hair loss. The attention is not unwarranted. A 2015 trial established the plant as a natural alternative to minoxidil in treating androgenetic alopecia, a common form of hair loss.

There are many videos on social media of people applying the essential oil directly on their scalp while raving about how rosemary oil is helping their hair grow. Essential oils are highly concentrated and the best way to use them topically is to dilute it to avoid causing irritation to your scalp.

You may dilute rosemary essential oil in a suitable carrier oil or you may also add the rosemary essential oil to a fragrance-free shampoo or conditioner.

Mix with a carrier oil. While coconut and jojoba oil are commonly used to dilute rosemary oil, we prefer black seed oil. Black seed oil is obtained from the cold press of the seeds of the nigella sativa plant. Our organic black seed oil is produced in Tunisia. Packed with thymoquinone, black seed oil is a potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory that enjoys a reputation as an ancient remedy for hair loss, much like rosemary oil. Its lightweight quality makes black seed oil suitable for all hair types, including oily scalp. Adding 2 to 3 per cent of rosemary oil to black seed oil is what we recommend.

To use as a pre-shampoo treatment, put 10 to 15 drops of the mixed oils on your palm. Rub your hands together to heat up the hair oil and apply it directly onto the scalp. Leave it on for ten to twenty minutes before rinsing it off with a shampoo. You may incorporate this as a daily routine or you may choose to use it two to three times a week. It’s not recommended to leave it on your hair and scalp overnight.

While many talk about rosemary oil as an elixir of sort for your hair, do not expect quick results. It may take up to six months to see any significant improvement.

Add to shampoo or conditioner. If you find pre-shampoo treatment a hassle, you may also add rosemary oil to a fragrance-free shampoo or conditioner like our Good Oh Shampoo or Good Oh Conditioner.
